The Legacy of the Green Lantern

The original Green Lantern retired in 1951 with the rest of the Justice Society. After occasionally appearing as needed in the 50s, he turned his ring over to his successor in 1960. The second Green Lantern retired in 1983, naming black architect John Stewart to the ring. Stewart refused to hide his identity behind a mask, but still used the Green Lantern name. He announced his own retirement in 1993 and named a young, masked, white man to the office. There is just one power ring.
